At Entwistle Group we believe we have adopted policies that make our ESG statement one of the most compelling for any printing company in the UK.
Entwistle Group has been a carbon zero printer since 2021. We knew it would be difficult (and expensive) and we were right.
Roof insulation and solar panels costing hundreds of thousands of pounds, our first electric car, lights that switch off when not needed, we believed that by investing in long term actions rather than short term benefits, we will remain carbon zero when carbon credit schemes have all dried up.
Our two HP 7600 Indigo presses – super high quality digital print machines capable of incredible detail and colour – are our reliable workhorses for day-to-day paper and board print production.
Costing in excess of £800k, HP manufactures them as carbon neutral and they are highly energy efficient to run – they even recycle and clean their own printing oils which, in more traditional print technologies, can be a hazardous by-product that’s difficult to dispose of.
By achieving carbon neutrality through investment, we can assist you with your net zero aims and our experience in reaching net zero will help you with your sustainable goals.
We think it’s vital that a printing company works alongside its customers in a transparent and trustworthy way.
We embrace all aspects typically found in an ESG policy – environmental stance, social policies and corporate governance – and then we have added some of our own.
Whilst we would be delighted if you read through our ESG policy in full, a quick summary is below:
Environmental stance:
From powering our business on 100% renewable electricity to offering environmentally friendly print products, we demonstrate a genuine commitment to sustainability.
Social policies:
Governance:
As a company, we believe that our ESG policy is more than just a few bullet points on a website. It’s a fundamental element woven into Entwistle Group’s fabric and it helps guide our actions regarding working practices, corporate responsibility and sustainability.
As a continual way to improve and re-evaluate our working practices, we have opted to undergo rigorous independent assessments to obtain industry leading accreditations.
As you’d expect, there is immense scrutiny and a colossal amount of work, but we think there is no better way to demonstrate to a potential client (and existing ones) what a printing company can achieve.
As I’m sure you can understand, we’re a little proud of what our team has accomplished:
ISO 14001:2015 Accreditation for Environmental Management
An international standard, ISO 14001:2015 is about understanding and finding a structured approach to environmental protection.
It enables us to know exactly how to develop and implement policies to deliver environmentally responsible and sustainable business practices. It also means that we have to consider the environment in every aspect of our business and devise ways of reducing any environmental impact it may have.
Practically, it could involve ways of increasing our recycling rates or even reducing the amount by re-using items such as packaging.
ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Accreditation
ISO 9001 is a set of documented management procedures which ensure that companies adopt the most effective approach to processes, decision taking and supply chains.
At Entwistle Group, our guidelines cover everything from checking the quality of every print job to ensuring that our suppliers are similarly professional and also working to the same high standards.
As an example of our ISO 9001 commitments, a 1000 page print run on one of our HP Indigo machine would find the operator checking every 50th page for colour consistency and rendering.
As you would expect, the final printed page should be as high quality as the first and if anything should change, by checking every 50th page, the operator can fix the issue quickly and efficiently.
For our suppliers we have created an approved supplier list. To be added to it, there is a range of criteria to be met including whether they have ISO 9001, their anti-slavery or child labour policies along with their FSC accreditation.
It is important that our company values are delivered across our supply chain.
Green Paper and Boards
This is an area that, as a Group, we have closely examined. We understand that your immediate reaction would be to anticipate we use a great deal of recycled paper. The open and honest answer is that we do not, yet this was still an environmentally oriented decision, and here’s why.
The paper we use is made from the wood from trees harvested from a sustainable forestry environment. These trees are immediately replaced with saplings which, in 20 years’ time, will be harvested once again. To limit transport (and pollution) sawmills and paper processing plants are located as close as possible to the forests. The mills and paper factories operate as efficiently as possible to further reduce any environmental impact. The paper produced by these mills comes with FSC® Certification, and this is the only paper we use. This policy is also part of the reason why we have Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2015 accreditation.
The alternative is recycled paper, yet the process of recycling paper to provide paper that is of a suitable quality for printing is far more complex that that of say, a toilet roll. The volume of electricity required, the amount of bleach and other chemicals, plus the fact the original paper is sourced from numerous locations prior to being processed means that the intention is appreciably greener than the end result. However where a customers specifies recycled paper or materials we usually have a recycled alternative.

Green Exhibition stands
Booking space at an event can be costly as well as time consuming so it’s important you get noticed. Does your stand look inviting? Does it speak for you?
Exhibitions come in all shapes and sizes, budgets too so there are solutions for every occasion. These can range from simply dressing an existing shell scheme to bespoke designs including breakout rooms, storage and AV. There are many modular systems that can be configured to create eye-catching designs and are ideal when working to a budget.
Designing an effective exhibition stand requires practical experience. Over the years we have received many beautiful designs where the graphics seem highly professional and effective only to discover that when a table is introduced to the stand for some of the products or merchandising literature half the messaging is obscured. All important messaging needs to be placed 1500mm from the floor. It is essential at a design stage to include all the furniture that will be require and we can “print” your own branded furniture from re-board including tables, chairs and shelves.
